Kidambi Srikanth - Badminton - Biography

Srikanth Nammalwar Kidambi was born in a Brahmin family in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh on 7 February 1993. His father KVS Krishna is a farmer, and his brother Nanda Gopal is also a badminton player.

He joined Gopichand's academy along with his brother and trained there.
In the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in Isle of Man, Srikanth won the silver in mixed doubles and bronze in doubles. In India, he became the champion in  the singles and doubles category at the All India Junior International Badminton Championship held in Pune.


In 2012 Srikanth overcame the then Junior World Champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia in the Maldives International Challenge to claim the Men’s singles title


In the 2013 Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold event, Srikanth won the finals match in singles  beating then world number eight and local favorite Boonsak Ponsana in straight sets won the title. In that year, Srikanth beat reigning champion and Olympian Parupalli Kashyap in the All India Senior National Championships in Delhi and  claimed his first senior national title. He was a member of of the Awadhe Warriors team that finished second in the Indian Badminton League, 2013.


He finished runner up at the 2014 India Open Grand Prix Gold event in Lucknow and was a quarter finalist 2014 Malaysian Open.  He  reached the semi finals of the Mixed-team event at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow and reached the quarter finals of the Men's Singles event.  In November 2014, he created a major upset in the final of the 2014 China Open Super Series Premier by beating 5 times World Champion and 2 times Olympic Champion Lin Dan in straight sets (21-19 21-17), thus becoming the first Indian to win a Super Series Premier Men's title.

S. Venkataraghavan - Cricketer

Date of Birth: 21 April, 1945

Venkataraghavan was an off spin bowler. He was one of the famed Indian quartet of spin bowlers in the 1970s (the others being Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, Bishen Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna). He had to compete with Prasanna for a place in the team.  He was also a strong close-in fielder and a useful tail-end batsman.  Venkat, at the age of 20 he was selected to play against the touring New Zealand side in 1965. By the end of the series he had emerged as a world-class spinner, taking 12 wickets in the Delhi test that resulted in  India's  victory. He was the vice-captain of the Indian team that toured the West Indies and England in 1970–71. India won both series. Venkat played an important role, claiming five wickets in the Trinidad Test and 13 wickets in the three Tests in England. He captained India in both the 1975 and 1979 World Cup competitions. He was also the captain of  India in a four-Test series against England in 1979. In domestic cricket, he led South Zone and Tamil Nadu for over a decade. Venkat retired from first-class cricket in 1985.

He became a cricket administrator and managed the Indian Test side. Subsequently, he became an international umpire.

He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2003.

Zaheer Khan - Cricketer - Biography

Zaheer Khan (dob 7 October 1978) is an Indian cricketer. He   has been a member of the Indian cricket team since 2000. A left-arm fast bowler, Zaheer is known for his ability to swing the ball both ways. Zaheer can also use reverse swing. He was a  key bowler of 2011 World Cup winning team, leading the attack with 21 wickets in just 9 games. He is regarded as the best Indian  fast bowler who emerged from India after Kapil Dev. He is considered among the best left hand fast bowlers in the world along with Wasim Akram and Chaminda Vaas.
