Cricket India's First Test Victory in 1952 - Memorable Achievement

India won a cricket test for the first time in 1952. It was the fifth test in the series against England side during 1951-52. The match was played on the Chepauk ground of Madras during 6,8,9, and10 February 1952.

Date of Birth: 21 April, 1945

Venkataraghavan was an off spin bowler. He was one of the famed Indian quartet of spin bowlers in the 1970s (the others being Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, Bishen Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna). He had to compete with Prasanna for a place in the team.  He was also a strong close-in fielder and a useful tail-end batsman.  Venkat, at the age of 20 he was selected to play against the touring New Zealand side in 1965. By the end of the series he had emerged as a world-class spinner, taking 12 wickets in the Delhi test that resulted in  India's  victory. He was the vice-captain of the Indian team that toured the West Indies and England in 1970–71. India won both series. Venkat played an important role, claiming five wickets in the Trinidad Test and 13 wickets in the three Tests in England. He captained India in both the 1975 and 1979 World Cup competitions. He was also the captain of  India in a four-Test series against England in 1979. In domestic cricket, he led South Zone and Tamil Nadu for over a decade. Venkat retired from first-class cricket in 1985.

He became a cricket administrator and managed the Indian Test side. Subsequently, he became an international umpire.

He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2003.

Kapil Dev - Cricketer

Date of birth 6 January 1959


Kapil Dev, is a famous former test cricketer. He was the  captain of  the Indian cricket team which won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. He was named by Wisden as the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002.

Kapil was a right-arm pace bowler noted for his graceful action and potent outswinger, and was India's main strike bowler for most of his career. He also developed a fine inswinging yorker during the 1980s, which he used very effectively against tail-enders. As a batsman, he was a natural striker of the ball who could hook and drive effectively. A naturally aggressive player, he often helped India in difficult situations by taking the attack to the opposition. Nicknamed The Haryana Hurricane, he represented the Haryana cricket team in domestic cricket. He retired in 1994, holding the world record for the most number of wickets taken in Test cricket, a record subsequently broken by Courtney Walsh in 2000. At the time, he was also India's highest wicket taker in both major forms of cricket, Tests and ODIs. He is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5,000 runs in Tests making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. On 8 March 2010, Kapil Dev was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Zaheer Khan - Cricketer - Biography

Zaheer Khan (dob 7 October 1978) is an Indian cricketer. He   has been a member of the Indian cricket team since 2000. A left-arm fast bowler, Zaheer is known for his ability to swing the ball both ways. Zaheer can also use reverse swing. He was a  key bowler of 2011 World Cup winning team, leading the attack with 21 wickets in just 9 games. He is regarded as the best Indian  fast bowler who emerged from India after Kapil Dev. He is considered among the best left hand fast bowlers in the world along with Wasim Akram and Chaminda Vaas.
